If you are building a new house or cabin, or if you're just replacing your old septic tank, you need to get a permit from us. This permit allows you to install your on-site wastewater treatment system. Here are the basic rules:
Before you dig:
Remember, your lot must be at least 20,000 square feet to support a septic system. If your lot is smaller than that, you cannot install a traditional septic system.
Once we issue your permit, you can start digging. However, before you connect the system and put the dirt back over it, we need to inspect it. Call us at least 24 hours before you plan to connect and cover. Our inspector will come and visually verify that the system you've installed matches the plans you've given us and is sufficient for the building and lot you're working on.
A properly installed septic system is good for you, your neighbors, and the whole lake. If you have any questions about the permit application process, please contact us. We'll be happy to help you make sure everything is done right.
